Heaven Sent

Alexander McQueen's last exquisite collection was shown in Paris on March 9th, again proving the designer can continue to leave the fashion world breathless, even from the grave.

While his last show, Spring 2010, displayed futuristic, fantastical fashion evocative of the digital age modern society lives in, the collection for Fall 2010 RTW was a throwback to the traditional and beautiful ornate brocades, silks, and luxurious gowns reminiscent of the dark ages. Though old-fashioned in some respects, throughout the collection were reminders of past designs he has done -- the closing piece was a high collared gold feathered jacket that recalled his first haute couture collection, "Icarus." Bits and pieces of his clothing were touched by history, but he never failed to throw in his signature style as well with tough belts and thigh high boots, and with feathered mohawk headpieces.

With a mix of past and present and future, this collection was truly appropriate as his last, and utterly stunning.
